FREE Trauma-Informed Curriculum

One of the primary objectives of the 2018-2019 contract for the Wisconsin Hawthorn Project was to develop a freely-available curriculum on trauma-informed care that is tailored for child-and-family-serving agencies in Wisconsin. The curriculum, created by Jessica Dallman, MA, LPC, NCC, is attached below. It includes and introduction to the curriculum, tips on how to use it, and notes for facilitators.

Additional curriculum addenda or curricular modifications were made by participants of the 2019 WHP Learning Collaborative, and the 2020 Learning Collaborative. They are also attached below to exemplify how the curriculum is a living document. Note: The agencies that created the adapted curricula were all compensated with a stipend for their time and work.

Core Curriculum Trainings

Full-Day Trainings

The Trauma-Informed Care Core Curriculum Training for agencies and organizations working with children and families were initially presented as a free full-day training in each of the five regions of Wisconsin during the fall of 2018 and again in the fall of 2019.

Since funding has ended for the trainings, they are no longer freely available. You have three choices for how to procede.

1) Watch our free, online training videos.

2) You can contact one of the 12 agencies that completed the Train-the-Trainer Learning Collaborative in order to receive local training and support.
Northern Region: New Day Advocacy Center; Iron County Human Services
Western Region: Catholic Charities of the Diocese of La Crosse; Turningpoint for Victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault
Northeastern Region: Wise Women Gathering Place
Southeastern Region: Milwaukee Center for Children and Youth; Women’s and Children’s Horizons of Kenosha
Southern Region: Juneau County Health Department; Milestone Democratic School; Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS)

3) Contact the developer of the curriculum, Jessica Dallman, at Natural Wisdom Counseling LLC in order to receive customized training or consultation.

Train-the-Trainer Learning Collaborative

Ongoing Training and Consultation with stipend

Two seasons of the Learning Collaborative took place in 2018-2019, and 2019-2020.

Meet the two cohorts!

The Wisconsin Department of Children and Families and Natural Wisdom Counseling LLC recognize that many agencies and organizations that serve children and families deal with the fallout of pervasive trauma in their clientele, as well as vicarious trauma and burnout, strained budgets, and high client-to-staff ratios. As a result, 30% of the total budget was set aside for stipends for participating agencies and organizations.

Who are we Targeting?

Training is geared toward audiences from child and family serving entities including local governmental agencies and private non-profits. Examples of target agencies include county human service organizations, prevention and early intervention agencies, or organizations that serve children and families experiencing risk factors such as poverty, domestic violence, substance abuse, and other adverse childhood experiences.
